3 Top Tailormade Holiday Destinations to Visit

For many people looking to go abroad, budget can be a big issue, and often it is this that comes into play when deciding whether to book a package tour or a tailormade break for their getaway. Both package and tailormade holidays have their advantages, of course, and are more or less appropriate depending on the destination.

There are many great travel agencies today that aim to offer affordable luxury customized vacations, meaning that you can get a tailored experience for not far off the budget price of a package break. Indeed, some destinations are definitely worth booking a tailormade holiday for – here are three places where customization is often better than booking the standard option.

One location where you should ask a travel agency to customize your trip is the country of Greece, which is a nation with such a rich and varied history that there are almost too many fascinating things to do and see.

With ancient cities such as Athens, breath-taking ruins such as Delphi, paradise Greek islands such as Santorini and cultural hotspots such as Thessaloniki, it is worth spending some time considering what you really want to get out of your visit to Greece before you book your break.

Whilst many package tours will take you to one or two of the major hotspots, as there is so much to discover in Greece there is no reason why you should not entirely tailor your trip to your own tastes, focusing only on the places that you and your traveling party want to visit.

You may very well want to spend your Greek break discovering the gems that the Peloponnese peninsula has to offer over a two week trip, or instead organist a week long tour of the most fascinating historical sights in the country such as Athens, Olympia, Delphi and Marathon; tailormade holidays will allow you to do just this.

Another time when a customized holiday may be appropriate is if you are embarking on a safari to Africa. Althoughthere are many companies offering package tours of this kind, chances are that most people will only get the opportunity to go on such as trip once in a lifetime. For this reason, it is well worth investing a little more money to make this trip truly memorable.

If you are thinking of booking this holiday, consider whether you would like to see the Big Five or the Big Seven, whether you want a luxury vacation or an eco tour, whether you want to integrate some cultural sightseeing into your trip or not, and whether you prefer a lodge or hotel accommodation. Tailormade holidays will give you the chance to make your safari an unforgettable one.

A final destination that is definitely worthy of a tailored trip for you and your traveling party is Thailand, a country which has a range of different personalities, from the party lifestyle of Phuket to the adventurous jungle trekking of Koh Samui and Ko Tao.

For this reason, holiday makers to different parts of the nation can end up with entirely different impressions of the country and will have experienced entirely different things. If you want to see all of the parts of Thailand that interest you in particular, it is well worth considering tailormade holidays as an ideal option.

Whether you would like to visit temples, spend time mingling with the locals in smaller towns off the tourist trail, or simply visit all the liveliest party hotspots in the country, a customized holiday can allow you to experience the best of what is on offer in Thailand.

Package holidays can be great value for money and perfect for many people for a number of reasons, but a tailored holiday is arguably the best choice for some destination sand holiday types. If you are considering visiting Greece, Thailand or going on a safari, consider investing a little extra to customize your trip entirely to your tastes for the best experience.

Travelling in Vietnam An Independent Traveller s Guide

Vietnam’s elongated shape makes it a wonderfully easy place to travel, basically you only have two choices to make about your route – do I go north to south or south to north? It is surprisingly easy to explore as an independent traveler, but there are also many groups that you can choose to join as well. Here follows a list of must-see destinations on your itinerary.

Hanoi – My all time favourite city has to be the capital, Hanoi. On the list of more touristy things to do here are the water puppet show and also a war museum, which as a Westerner is most enlightening. It’s not often we get to see a war and all of its propaganda through a different lens. In the same vein, if not a little macabre, is a visit to see the preserved body of Ho Chi Minh. Away from the visitors attractions are some lovely streets to explore and some great eateries. True, Hanoi has its fair share of pizza and western joints, but there are restaurants with no other tourists in them and you don’t have to go too far off the beaten track to find them either.

HalongBay – Hanoi is also the obvious starting point for a trip to see Halong Bay with its very impressive limestone rock formations. Most people explore the area on a traditional Vietnamese junk. As well as cruising past some amazing scenery, you will also get the chance to explore some naturally formed limestone caves. The top end junks tend to be pretty luxurious, with top notch food and lovely cabins to boot.

Sapa – Another popular side trip from Hanoi is Sapa, in the north east corner of the country. Reached by an easy overnight train from Hanoi, this colourful hill station is home to local hill tribes who congregate at the thriving market to sell their wares. The peace of the valleys and the verdant green terraces are a welcome respite from the busy, polluted towns and many residents of Hanoi choose to escape here at the weekends to escape the heat of the city.

Hue – This town saw some of the most crucial battles in the Vietnam war, the Tet offensive, and is a must see destination on your trip. Not much of the ancient citadel, which was home to the forbidden city when the town was the capital, has survived, but you can still wander round the grounds and get a feel for the place and visit a cultural show. From Hue, you have the option of a boat trip on the Perfume River to visit Thien Mu Pagoda and the royal Nguyen tombs, these, whilst popular with many tourists, are not to be missed. From Hue you can also take a guided trip out to visit some of the tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the war.

Hoi-An – This town is a very quaint and pretty place to visit. With arguably the best fusion of Vietnamese, Chinese and French influences, there are fabulous restaurants to eat in and some beautifully maintained Chinese style houses to visit. The town is also known for its shopping, with shoe makers and tailors a plenty to recreate any item of clothing that you desire.

Mui Ne – This quiet and sleepy beach resort welcomes travelers from all walks of life, from backpacker to the more upmarket, there is something for everyone here. Unlike the beach resort of Nha Trang, further up the coast, Mui Ne has a more relaxed and chilled out vibe. The sandy beaches are a perfect spot for sunbathing, whilst the breezes make this a popular destination for wind surfers. For those who just can’t sit still, you can take a ride into the nearby sand dunes and go sliding on plastic sledges.

Ho Chi Minh City – This city used to be called Saigon and is famous for its role in the Vietnam war. As you visit the city, you can’t help but remember the desperate scenes outside the American embassy back in the 1970’s. Now, however, the city has recovered into a busy and bustling hub. Lacking, admittedly, the charm of Hanoi, it is still worth a visit and will almost certainly feature on your itinerary. As well as the Reunification Palace and the Ho Chi Minh City museum, there is a busy Ben Thanh market to visit to sample some local food. Whilst you’re here, find the time to wander round the countless art shops full of students reproducing famous paintings. Never in your whole life will you see so many Mona Lisas staring at you!

Mekong Delta – A river trip exploring the vast Mekong Delta is a must do on your trip to Vietnam. You can either spend a day seeing the highlights, or get further off the beaten track staying in a traditional homestay on an overnight trip. You will get to see a different side of Vietnam, visiting local families who live off the river, either through fishing, incense making or tourism. For those with time on their hands, you can catch a boat to the Cambodian border and travel through to Pnomh Penh.

Top Tricks to Plan a Great Trip

Planning a trip is a daunting task. It is difficult to pin point the areas to begin and decide on the steps. Things often seem overwhelming here and the task acquires more difficulty if you did not take part in something similar before. By planning properly, you can enjoy a hassle free trip.

Let us now go through some tips that will help to plan the best possible trip:

Choose the Venue with Care: As soon as people think of going for a trip, they have a place in mind. Decide on a specific place. Conduct research on the destination and discuss it with the fellow travelers. Websites are great places to browse journals, travel photos, as well as videos that real people posts sharing their experience. Keep the weather and climactic conditions in mind. It is also advisable to consider the merits and demerits of the destination and recreation and transport facilities available.

Decide on the Time Properly: Various things decide this and the most significant facet that comes in here is the schedule of the trip. Find out how much time you can take off from work. Apart from the constraints, also consider global factors like whether you will prefer to visit the destination in the off-season or when the tourism is booming. No doubt, several discounts are available during the off-season but you also need to understand that there will be some problems too. You may also fail to visit some of the destinations if you visit in the off-season.

Never be Rigid with the Itinerary: Planning well in advance tends to backfire since vacations rarely go according to plan. Plan keeping the hints of the tour operator in mind but be flexible. Mark the places you need to visit as well as the things you intend being a part of. Keeping the schedule in mind, find out the time you have in your hand for each destination. Make a list. Jot down all the places you want to visit. This list must include the museums, restaurants, malls and all other places of interest. This will not just give you the idea but you will also not even feel lost as soon as you arrive at a destination.

Assess the Costs Beforehand: Do you want to stay put in a five-star luxury hotel or intend to stay in the comparatively cost-effective ones? You need to find the amount you can shell out and then allocate resources. Take some time to figure out the charges that you may inculcate. This will include the airfare as well as gasoline charges. Always overestimate and not underestimate costs. There are always costs that you fail to foresee but inculcate later. In case you find out that the trip will cost you more than you intend to spend, cut down your trip.

Before you start your trip, make sure to check out on passports and other essential documents. Now, you can begin your trip and have a great time. This is the easiest part. Relax and enjoy a great trip.
